The Golden Hours
The Golden Hours are knwon as the first skin-to-skin hours between mum and baby. It’s important that mum and baby feel safe, calm and remain undisturbed during this time.
So much can be established through this fundamental, sacred time of bonding and attachment - including the first latch and feed, and optimal cord clamping.
Mum’s body temperature has the ability to change to meet the thermoregulatory needs of the baby, as baby’s heart rate and respiratory rate start to create a new rhythm.
As prolactin and oxytocin surge in mum, this time is paramount to breast milk production and long term lactation.
I’ll never not be amazed by the primal connection between a mother and her child.
